Allgrain kits mangrove jack was created by Dredd
I am looking at brewing tomorrow, keg king are closed. Considering a mangrove jack grain kit www.liquorcraft.com.au/afawcs0133827/CAT.../productdetails.html

Has anyone tried this? If so, thoughts ?

I am almost thinking of going extract for wheat beer, but this looks interesting.

Cheers

I decided to give it a crack. It was $55 in store so a bit more reasonable.

The grain bill is all there so if it is good I can source from Keg King.
2.70 kg Gladfield Pilsner Malt (3.8 EBC)
2.40 kg Gladfield Wheat Malt (4.2 EBC)
0.40 kg Gladfield Sour Grapes Malt (4.0 EBC)
0.37 kg Oats, Flaked (2.0 EBC)
8.00 g Pacific Jade [13.00 %] - Boil 60.0 min Hop 5 11.7 IBUs
50.00 g Orange Peel, Bitter (Boil 5.0 mins) Spice
13.00 g Coriander Seed (Boil 5.0 mins) Spice
1.20 g Camomile Flowers
1.0 pkg Belgian Wit (Mangrove Jack's #M21) Yeast

Gave it a go today. Grain was milled too fine. The mash took forever to sparge.

On top of this I scorched the base. The protein levels were through the roof.

Decided to pitch it and see how apparent the taint is post fermentation. but not holding my breath.

Things dont always go to plan . Buggar, did you get a blocked sparge? Any way you should still get good beer and your next one will be even better. Cheers

It wasn't blocked, just super slow. Reading up on Wheat beer after the fact, wheat grains lack a husk. The result is the mash is a lot gluier.

If I were to have another crack, i'd add about 1 kilo of rice husks which seems to be recommended.

We will see how it turns out, I am hoping that the esters in the yeast will mask the scorching. I might also add some additional coriander seeds to the fermenter and possibly a small amount of mid-aromatic hops such as cascade.

The test tube sample is smelling a lot better today so fingers crossed.

yeah thats right Dredd, As I said it will be ok, the yeast will sort it out and for next time the rice husks will help with the flow so to speak.
I think its awesome that youve shared an issue that we can all learn from so thanks for that. Please let us know how it turns out. Cheers.
I maybe have an issue with a kit I did 2 weeks ago, its got a very apple cider taste Ive never had before and I did use the last of my washed yeast. Hopefully in a month it will sort its self out, we will see. cheers

Brewing a familiar Dark Mild later today. (hint: Was the bastard tired? Or was he run over by a tire (tyre). No one really knows). One thing for sure. It will be a treat when done. Cheers!
