Red IPA was created by cliveinthemiddle
Hi,

I have been lovng the Coopers NEIPA recipe. I have made it twice now, second time I tried the Coopers IPA can instead and both have been sensational so thanks first up!
I would really lke to use a similar mathod to make a red IPA. Has anyone ever made one using a combination of grain and a can? If so, would love some recommendations on which grains, hops etc
Thanks!

I'd do it much the same, except replace the oats and medium crystal with
300 grams of Simpsons Dark Crystal
50 grams of Roasted Barley
With the Coopers Pale Ale Tin.

Coopers IPA tin um I havent played with that one much, its nearly red on its own isnt? You'd only need a touch of roasted Malt, I'd just be guessing though Maybe 30 or 40g.

Cheers!

Sure, can use whatever you like really, I'd probably suggest looking at some commercial beers you like and seeing what hops they use, I like the US 'C' hops centennial.cascade, columbus, citra etc Aussie Galaxy, Vic Secret, super pride. then the mosaic, simcoe, Nelson Sav. could go on forever hahaha

Ok so here are my thoughts on this going to give it a try would love your feedback:

1.40 kg Gladfield American Ale Malt
300g Simpsons Dark Crystal
50g kg Roasted Barley
Use paint strainer bag for BIAB. Use cake cooler for applying heat with bag in.

Start with 5-6L of water
Strike temp 73deg to get mash temp of 67
Mash for 1hr

While waiting
• Put tin of Coopers IPA in sink full of hot water to reduce viscosity.
• Bring another 4-5L of water to near boil for sparging
• Sanitise fermenter

Lift mash bag and squeeze
Sparge with 4-5L of hot water

Bring to boil (might take 15min)
Boil for 15 min (partly to sanitise)

Turn off heat, Add ~1L cold water
Then add
40.00 g Simcoe [12.00 %] - Steep/Whirlpool 15.0 min
40.00 g Mosaic [14.00 %] - Steep/Whirlpool 15.0 min
20.00 g Citra [10.00 %] - Steep/Whirlpool 15.0 min

Transfer wort to Fermenter – use strainer for hops

Add
0.50 kg Coopers Light Dry Extract
1.70 kg tin Coopers IPA
1kg Dextrose

Add chilled water to make up to 21L and reduce temp to pitching temp.

Take OG

Pitch Safale US-05 Yeast

Dry hop 4 days – use hop bag
40g Simcoe
40g Mosaic
30g Citra

and thats it - should I add hops during boil or just stick to recipe above?

cheers

Brewing a familiar Dark Mild later today. (hint: Was the bastard tired? Or was he run over by a tire (tyre). No one really knows). One thing for sure. It will be a treat when done. Cheers!
