Hey guys.
Ive been having a recurring issue of harsh bitterness and very litte to no hop flavour coming through. I have purchased a 3 stage water filter and have tried it but still im not getting much hop flavour but the harshness has disapated.

I mainly brew pale ales, xpa's and ipas.
My local council is nice enough to make my water profile available on a quarterly basis so i have the current file. I have punched this data into beersmith and im its telling me m beers sould be extremly malty.

Ok nice one. Ive put your data into EZWATER calculator and yeah your well under with your salts. Basically it says to add 5g gypsum,5g CaCl2,and 3mgSO4
Thats a good staring point. Ive used 5 kg of maris otter and .5 g crystal malt. that gives you a nice balance. you can adjust it to your taste.
ill do a screen shot. cheers mate hop this points you in the right direction.
having trouble with the screen shot and now ive lost speed sheet. sorry.

with water profiles , is there away of testing the water yaself

the reason i ask this is some areas have a couple of different water encatchments for drinking water and each are treated differently at different times

it would be a costly adventure to be get water tests done everytime you brewed by a water doctor or whatever like to call them

if we could do it ourselves from our taps every so often through some kit it we would be fairly spot on then relying on a 3 month or 6 month water test the water board produces

Thats a good question. There probably is but I don't know . I use the water report from my local council water analysis on the net from their web site. I often have a look to see if anything has changed. Cheers Ozdevil1

thats what gave the idea of asking the question

where i live we have 3 reservoirs merrimu, Pykes and melton

so you would want al three water analysis for them and if western water changed what they are putting in these reservoirs you may not get the great readings back

so leaves you getting water and getting it somewhere tested or by doing it yourself

Yeah same. I bought a kit the other week and tessted my tap water so i could compare it with the report from my local council. Surprisingly the report was pretty spot on and it was super easy to do.

Brewing a familiar Dark Mild later today. (hint: Was the bastard tired? Or was he run over by a tire (tyre). No one really knows). One thing for sure. It will be a treat when done. Cheers!
