Hi All, Names Gav,
I'm a Full Newbie and looking to gear up with cheap setup and have a go. Found this site via YouTube. Tired of spending so much on beer these days and been wondering "if" I could possibly make something that is drinkable and save $. Spent today searching web for parts and ideas. I'm in South Australia and its pretty cold. Not sure how I will get my ferment temp correct and keep it stable for the first couple of weeks. I wont have time to be checking all the time so hoping there's a thermostat driven belt or pad setup I can use?

I'm hoping to make the Hoppy Pale Ale Extract Recipe on a low budget and hopefully get something that is drinkable before investing too much. Haven't got any equipment let, just wanting to start with minimum and not be sucked in buying stuff I can do without.

Tried once before when I was a 20 year old and it was garbage. Have more patience now at 46. Wish me luck, any advice (and I'll need it .. lol) will be greatly appreciated.
regards
Guvna

G'day mate, best bet would be to find a local(ish) home brew shop, most will have a a basic set up kit. Just be a fermenter, spoon, airlock. Maybe a bottle capper if you use glass bottles.
In winter just a heat belt and a blanket or old jacket or something will help a lot. You can grab a temp controller if you want for about $50, that can also be used with an old fridge if you continue on with the hobby..

something like this www.ebay.com.au/itm/Home-Brew-Beer-Start...7:g:1EcAAOSwd3dXFfGt

www.ebay.com.au/itm/Inkbird-ITC-308-AU-P...sDelivery!3030!AU!-1

Temp control really helps the beer, the ferment is the most important part, use good fresh ingredients and you're most of the way there.

Just ask any questions mate.
Sorry for the delay, I try and stay off my computer most Saturdays. Cheers mate!

Cheers for Reply Gash,
I have an old fridge which only runs flat and was thinking of pairing an itc308 with either a pad or a belt? dont think I'll need the fridge on this time of year? maybe the itc308 will correct the buggered thermostat on the old fridge for summer use?
Given my names Gav, I love beer, and been playing and making/pimping my own guiters for 25 years, cant believe all this time theres been this Aussie beer dude pumping out beer and bass and I wasnt aware lol, loved watching your vids all day yesty.
Beerbelly is like 2 mins from my house,

Hi Gav,
I have only been brewing for the last 10 months but the best investment I have made is a second hand fridge and a temp controller. I am in the Adelaide Hills, too hot during summer too cold during winter.
Around town Beerbelly have the best prices overall. Although Woolies sell the Coopers cans at probably the lowest price. If you are looking for cheap gear Gumtree and Op Shops are great (lots of 2nd hand stuff around).
Cheers
Chris

hahaha Cheers mate, yep just a heat belt will do. Fridge really helps but not 100% needed in winter if you dont start your brew too hot.

people do use the bunnings ones, though I havent in years, last I did they were near identical to a brew shop ones, I cant say what the blues ones are like personally. And I'e had a bunnings tap leak, that might of been bad luck, I don't know. Cheers!

Brewing a familiar Dark Mild later today. (hint: Was the bastard tired? Or was he run over by a tire (tyre). No one really knows). One thing for sure. It will be a treat when done. Cheers!
