Hi All,

New All Grain brewer here to pick brains and learn as much as possible through your mistakes so I don't have to make them all myself :P

I'm based in Melbourne, Aus, enjoy heavy music, motorcycles, a good shiraz and, of course, beer. All the beer.

I've just purchased the Robobrew 35L and taken it for its first spin on the weekend. Gravity was a few points down, so I'm hoping to do some reading and figure out why. Best guesses so far are maybe a low mash temp, or a bit quick with the sparge. I relied on the temp reading on the Robobrew rather than testing it with a thermometer myself and it sounds like the Robo can sometimes read a couple of degrees higher than actual.

Anyhoo, just introducing myself as etiquette dictates. I look forward to learning from and arguing with you all as I continue to brew.

Cheers,
RockRiffRoger.

G'day mate! Could be many reasons, the temps on a robobrew are pretty good as long as you insulate it. the return pipe can act like a chiller in winter, but to be honest a couple points is nothing.
Cheers mate!

Yeah , sometimes its hard to get a handle on why ,however, when you do a mash out( or not) give that mash a really good stir and leave it to settle for 10 minutes before vorlof( spelling, recirculating before sparging) Sometimes channels form in the mash causing the wort to run away in , well , channels limiting the amount of sugars gathered. Also sometimes I think not all grains are up to or under spec all the time. If it s a couple of points then it is what it as Gash said, is what it is ,no worries. And welcome to the site, cheers.

Brewing a familiar Dark Mild later today. (hint: Was the bastard tired? Or was he run over by a tire (tyre). No one really knows). One thing for sure. It will be a treat when done. Cheers!
