Ok accepting advice. was created by munisingbeer
So what I want to do is brew a non-watery, front end hoppy, session beer. until i make changes my eff. is in the tank so I have adjusted that in BS. but here is the plan. 156 deg mash to increase body, reasonable bittering addition to balance residual sweetness and late hop additions for kick.

Going to be fairly bitter for a session beer! But if you like that? My session beers are usually 30-ish ibu. I've only just starting to utilise aroma steeps, but that looks good. I was always a 1 minute man lol. but I think that will be ok what you have come up with.

This is probably the last session style hoppy one I made, it was a bit much when young but settled down nice just as the keg ran out

I agree on what Gash said probably going to be very bitter, you may want to tone down the hops a bit to balance it out , especially if its a low ABV beer

cheers

Bittering Hops is very much where I am trying to sort this beer out. I know it will have higher unfermentables because of my mash temp (done to get more body)and I don't want it to come across sweet. but not sure how sweet that will make it. so I want bitter to balance it but not sold on 50 IBU's may dial back to 30-35. but to be honest I'm not trying to brew a "session" beer I'm trying to brew a hoppy IPA that just happens to only be 3.2-3.6%

Yeah, I've been finding that sometimes when the BS sliders show you have an out of balance beer, you'll can get a beer that is too bitter.

What is this steeping hops method? I haven't heard of that before (I think).

Aroma steep as far as I know is a flameout addition that is allowed to steep in the wort for a set amount of time.

truth is they should read 10min boil and 5 min steep(which is just flame out addition)

I have found aroma steep included in a lot of recipes lately, but yeah its flameout and usually by the time you do a whirlpool its getting towards a 10 minute steep anyway, but some I have seen have been 20min etc. Maybe it started to get more popular when Beersmith put the aroma steep in the BS update.

Ah ok, I haven't heard that method used in those terms before. Thanks for letting me know that's in BS now. I am surprised it doesn't do any IBU calculations though?

One method I have used is to add aroma hops when the wort has cooled down to 120F (49C). At that temp a lot of the aromatics are retained, and some people like Gordon Strong use this method instead of dry hopping.

Brewing a familiar Dark Mild later today. (hint: Was the bastard tired? Or was he run over by a tire (tyre). No one really knows). One thing for sure. It will be a treat when done. Cheers!
