Just a quick Question was created by Greg52
First is to do with extract kit brewing.

After steeping the grain and doing the boil with Dry Malt and Sugars with some extra hops (Loose Pellets). There is the sediment on the bottom hould a leave that out of the fermenter or will i loose flavour and sugars?

Any info would be great.

You could strain it if you wanted to, you won't loose any much flavour from doing that, the malt etc should all be dissolved, the left overs should only be hops.

Cheers Gash,

Thought as much i was just trying to reduce the amount of crap on the bottom of the fermenter as some get dragged in to the keg. I'll give it a whirl next brew.

As Gash said its up to you really, however if you want to filter i would suggest running your wort through a muslin bag that's stretched over a nice big funnel into whatever vessel you are using. If it starts to get blocked up stop the wort, remove the muslin bag, dump hops safely and rinse and re sanitise the muslin bag and start again.

I just use those cheap Bunnings paint strainer bags to filter the trub as it gets tipped into the fermentor. They come in large and extra larger and have elastic tops. For dry hopping I whack 'em in in an el cheapo chux and tie the top (the hops I mean, not he bags as well).

That's great I haven't seen the paint bags in bunnings but I'll definitely look next time! Cheers

Brewing a familiar Dark Mild later today. (hint: Was the bastard tired? Or was he run over by a tire (tyre). No one really knows). One thing for sure. It will be a treat when done. Cheers!
