Breakfast Stout FG was created by joelthered
Hi,

I have the following recipe in Beersmith (pic attached), says FG should get down to 1014 but i've only gotten to 1020. I have found on 1 other occasion that I havent been able to get it as low as prediced. not sure if beersmith isn't the best at estimating fg for stouts, or this is up to my brewing technique (did somewhat of a protein rest for 10 mins, mashed at 66 for 70 mins).

I have raised the temp to 20 for a day or two but it's not going down. Do you think it's done? What about the recipe, should I be able to get it lower?

I dont know about Nottingham but some yeast tend to finish a little higher.
I made a series of stronger ales with M15 and could not get them down past 1020. Turned out it was the yeast. when I tried adding more M15 nothing happened it just stayed at 1020. Another time I added some us04 and the wort kicked off again and continued down to 1012.
There s nothing wrong with a finish of 1020 for a stout. Maybe next time try another yeast and see what happens and compare.
Here is a bit of info that may help a bit.

I had a read through and a few things there could affect like acidity and pitch rate and hydration.
Good luck and cheers.

Brewing a familiar Dark Mild later today. (hint: Was the bastard tired? Or was he run over by a tire (tyre). No one really knows). One thing for sure. It will be a treat when done. Cheers!
