The premise is simple: beer and food. Held in March, Federation Square's Microbreweries Showcase offers ticket-holders 20 locally made boutique lagers, ales and ciders from Melbourne and regional Victoria.

And being foodie-obsessed Melbourne, a tasting dish is included in the price. Meet and mingle with the brewers, and unless you've had a beer lobotomy, you can't fail to feel their passion for brewing. With dark ale from up-and-coming White Rabbit Brewery, and names like Prickly Moses and Mountain Goat, it's enough to make you want to be a beer.

Still want more? Afterwards schlepp over to Beer Deluxe in Federation Square for a beer list that includes authentic Trappist beer — plus there's discounts for ticketholders.
