Gladfield Brown Ale was created by Finnroo
So Ive made this brown ale that I took from the Gladfield malt catalogue twice now and just love it. I toned it down a bit from the 6.1 %abv to 5.5%abv. It goes something like this.
4kg Gladfield Pilsner malt
.450g of Gladfield medium crystal
.350g of Gladfield brown malt
.250g of Gladfield Biscuit malt
.250g of Gladfield Gladiator
.250g of Gladfield Roast wheat
For me I added 1 Teaspoon of CaCO3 (chalk)
and 1 tespoon of CaCl2 to the mash.
Mash temp 66degC for 70 minutes.
Sparge temp is 74degC

20g EKG at first wort 80 minutes
20g EKG and 1 teaspoon of Irish moss at 20 minutes
20g EKG at 5 minutes
Post boil volume 22 litres and ferment 21 litres. Sorry i dont know the pre boil volume
Next time i brew it i ll try and work it out. cheers

2 Packets of Us 04 rehydrated
Ferment at 19 degC for 4 days then raise to 22 deg for a further 6 days
then check hydrometer reading is constant over the next 2 days, then if you can cold crash ,if not then no problem.
over night then keg and bottle as usual.

Looks good, mate. A friend is coming over in the next few weeks for a double batch brew day for a brown ale, just working on the recipe . Cheers!
