A Not So Simple Pilsner was created by Cherry1
Slightly more complicated version than the only other thread in Pilsner's.
A few brews in to this all grain brewing now and have not had to pour anything down the drain yet. Seeing as the fermentation fridge is up and running, thought I would try a Pilsner.
Had a look around on the web for something close to a Pilsner Urquell and have put together the attached. Any thoughts?

G'day! I'll take a look! I've also more than likely got some clone recipes in books I'll check out for you!

I dont think an Urquell clone would need munich or vienna but adding them would make it a touch better in my opinion, just a little more malt flavour. It seems bitter but its fitting the style isnt it, I havent had an Urquell for a long time I dont remember how bitter it tastes. Otherwise I reckon take a shot! Usually it would have a very simple base grain bill but would be a triple decoction brew. Here's one I found in an old book called Brew Classic European Beers.

Cheers Gash,
The decoction has no chance, rather go to Dan Murphy's than have a 12 hour brew day :-). Any experience with melanoiden malt? Have watched a Beersmith podcast where Chris Graham and Brad Smith discussed this sort of replicated the decoction. Other sources say this is not the case.
Thanks
Chris

Yep its an old trick, I think its worth a try, Vienna and Munich have pretty high melanoidin in them as well, so you might not need too much, maybe 300g or so?? Cheers!

May just give it a go without the melanoiden. With regards the bitterness, it is towards the higher side according to the style guides. Interesting when I added the melanoiden to see what it did on beersmith, it darkened the colour a bit which I understand but also reduced the bitterness?? Reducing the 60min hops down to 40g puts it right in the middle. Too much to learn :-).
The ABV is high for the style, I would like to get it down to around 5%. The FG is ok, but the OG is high, whats the best way to tackle this without throwing everything else out?
Cheers

The higher the sugars in the wort the less hop utilisation happens, so you get slightly less bitterness from your hops.

You could probably with this recipe just lower the base malt. Or you can do it the fancy way and scale the whole recipe, its quite easy in beersmith. I'll post a couple of pics

that will adjust your malts, you may have to tweak hops again.

Brewing a familiar Dark Mild later today. (hint: Was the bastard tired? Or was he run over by a tire (tyre). No one really knows). One thing for sure. It will be a treat when done. Cheers!
