Hey hey everyone, I've been brewing some all grain stouts lately ( good weather for it), but I'm trying to make a real grainy / roasty tasting one, mine have been turning out a little sweet, anyone got any ideas or a good recipe ?????

Probably need to see your recipes.
Maybe too much Crystal? Try mashing at a lower temp. Don't use lactose.
Maybe try a porter?
Cheers!

Ok cheers, my last recipe was 4.5kg of Maris otter , 1kg of Munich , 340g of dark crystal, 230g of dark chocolate, 230g of roasted barley, 500g of flaked barley and 50g of black malt.
So maybe a bit too much dark crystal???, I mash at around 66 degrees and I didn't use any lactose, what do you think?? Cheers

You could probably drop D.Crystal all together, or just try 100g

Hello, just had a look at your recipe and yeah its always personal taste but for what its worth I would go 350 on the dark crystal,100 on the dark chocolate and 200 on the black malt and 100 on the roast barley.Keep everything else the same.
I cant see what your hop additions are but fuggles at 60,and 20 min would be nice.
cheers

Brewing a familiar Dark Mild later today. (hint: Was the bastard tired? Or was he run over by a tire (tyre). No one really knows). One thing for sure. It will be a treat when done. Cheers!
